As the NRC was nearing completion and August 31,2019 was the date for publication of the final NRC, there was serious tension and apprehension amongst various sections of the society.
There was fear, speculation and mistrust amongst various sections of people of Assam about the possible impact of the final publication of the NRC which was scheduled on August 31,2019.
As no one was sure of the final figure that was to be rejected by NRC, there were mounting tension leading serious communal build up. At that crucial juncture the NTF had decided to step into the arena of the Civil society and along with the Studio Nilima, organsied two back to back roundtables in Association with the Axom Xahitya Xabha to wind out the tension between the society and emerged as a sounding board for the community leaders.
The first one was organized on August 25,2019, just a week before the publication where the galaxy of intellectuals, noted lawyers and media personalities took part and placed their opinion,. It was moderated by renown legal lumnary Nilay Dutta.
Questions were raised how the suspected foreigner issue would be handled by the state specially the BJP, which was also represented in the roundtable.
The Second round table was organized a fortnight after the NRC was published . Once again a galaxy of intellectuals, editors and legal luminaries took part and this time it was moderated by senior lawyer Arup Barbora. Both the roundtables were summarized by AXX President Paramanana Rajhbongshi.
